Australia Post rates not showing at checkout

You ship from Australia and want buyers to see Australia Post prices at checkout. You picked “Carrier or app calculated” and found no Australia Post in the list, or you connected your account and checkout still shows your old flat rate, or nothing. Most of the advice online about this predates two changes: Shopify now connects to MyPost Business directly, and Sendle has stopped shipping. Start with how your rates reach checkout.

How Australia Post prices can reach a Shopify checkout

What it isRates at checkout?
Your MyPost Business account, connected to ShopifyShopify's direct integration with Australia Post. Needs a fulfilment location in AustraliaYes, once connected. See the plan question below
A shipping app that returns ratesA third-party app that sends its own prices to checkoutYes, if your plan includes third-party carrier-calculated shipping
Flat or weight-based rates you name “Parcel Post” or “Express Post”Prices you type in yourselfYes, on all plans. They never change on their own

One thing is missing from that list: rates that work without any account. Shopify's table of built-in carrier-calculated rates, the ones available on all plans with no carrier account, covers the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Spain. Australia is not in it. So with no MyPost Business account connected and no rate app, there is no Australia Post option to choose.

Connecting MyPost Business

Shopify's “Shipping with Australia Post” page sets out the requirements:

In MyPost Business, go to eCommerce Partners, find Shopify and click Connect. This generates a merchant token. Copy it. Then, in Shopify, go to Settings → Shipping and delivery, and in Carrier accounts click Connect account, choose Australia Post, paste the token, pick a payment method and click Connect. The rates you are charged come from your own Australia Post account.

Shopify announced this integration in its changelog in August 2025. Community threads from 2023 say Shopify did not include Australia Post, only Sendle, and that you needed an app. That advice is out of date on both counts.

Connected is not the same as offered

Shopify's steps for carrier rates are set per zone. In the shipping profile, each zone that should get Australia Post needs a shipping option with the rate type Carrier or app calculated, with Australia Post chosen and the services ticked. If a product is in another shipping profile, or the buyer's country is in a zone without that option, the buyer gets no Australia Post rate.

Which plan do you need?

Shopify's help pages do not say the same thing here, so it is worth knowing both.

If you are on Advanced or Plus, both pages agree. On another plan, connect the account, add the option, and test checkout with a real Australian address. If no Australia Post rate appears, ask Shopify Support which of the two applies to your store.

For a rate app (one that is not Shopify's own integration), there is no ambiguity: it relies on third-party carrier-calculated shipping, and Shopify's troubleshooting page says to check that this is “available and activated for your store” before contacting the app developer.

The services, and where they go

Shopify lists these services when your account is connected:

ServiceDelivery timeCoverage
Parcel Post2 to 6 business daysAll addresses within Australia
Express Post1 to 3 business daysAll addresses within Australia
International Post Standard5 to 10 business days220+ destinations
International Post Express3 to 6 business days220+ destinations

Shopify adds one exception: the integration offers domestic and international services “except United States”. If you sell to the US, your US zone needs another rate: a flat rate, another carrier, or an app. Otherwise US buyers can see no delivery option at all.

The parcel is too big or too heavy

Shopify gives these maximums for Australia Post packages: no side longer than 105 cm, at most 22 kg, and a volume of at most 0.25 cubic metres (250 litres). Australia Post's own size and weight guide gives the same figures for parcels within Australia. For parcels going overseas, it gives lower limits: 20 kg, 105 cm long, and 140 cm girth.

Carriers price from the weight and the box. Shopify says your store's default package dimensions are used to calculate carrier rates, and that the default package must be within the minimum and maximum requirements of the services you offer. So a heavy order, or a large default box, can get no Australia Post rate at all. Check product weights too: a product with no weight is treated as weightless.

Sendle is gone

Many Australian stores used Sendle through Shopify. Shopify's Sendle page now opens with this: “As of January 11, 2026, Sendle has ceased shipping operations.” Sendle is no longer a Shopify-supported carrier in Australia, and Shopify recommends removing Sendle rates if you still offer them, to avoid confusing buyers. Its suggested alternatives are labels from a local carrier bought outside Shopify, or connecting a MyPost Business account.

If your zones were built around Sendle, check each one now still has a working rate.

Backup rates in Australia

When all carrier or app rates for a shipment fail and no other eligible rate applies, Shopify shows backup rates. Its table of carriers used as backup has the US, Canada, the UK, France, Italy and Spain; Australia is not in it. Elsewhere, Shopify uses country-specific backup rates, “based on historical data”, which depend on your location, the buyer's address, your store currency, the item weight and the order value. A buyer may then see a price that is not your Australia Post price.

A flat rate in the same zone avoids depending on this: Shopify says flat rates are always displayed when they are eligible, even when carrier rates work.

The usual suspects

Shopify's troubleshooting list for carrier rates also asks you to check that both your origin and the buyer's address are valid for the carrier, that the location is active with a real address (app locations have none, so carrier rates cannot use them), and that stock sits at a location that fulfils online orders. The setup checks are detailed here, and timeouts and backup rates here.

A quick checklist

  1. Which route: your MyPost Business account connected to Shopify, an app, or your own flat rates?
  2. MyPost Business, not eParcel; a payment method in it; a fulfilment location in Australia.
  3. A “Carrier or app calculated” option with Australia Post, in every zone and profile that needs it.
  4. Not on Advanced or Plus? Test checkout; if nothing shows, ask Shopify Support.
  5. US buyers need another rate.
  6. Orders over 22 kg, or a default box over 105 cm or 0.25 m³, get no Australia Post rate.
  7. Remove leftover Sendle rates.
  8. A flat rate for destinations where you cannot afford “no option”.

What our store check covers, honestly

The free store check builds a cart with one unit of one product, as an anonymous buyer, with one address per country — Sydney for Australia. When a country has no fixed rate, it also asks for live carrier and app rates, the way checkout does, and lists the services that come back, with their prices. If they do not answer within 8 seconds, we report Could not confirm, not a failure.

A single Australian address means other states, regional and remote areas are not tested. When Australia already has a flat or tiered rate, we do not ask for carrier rates there. Shopify limits how often a store's carrier rates can be read, so the result may be a reading from the last few hours, with its age shown. The check never sees your admin, your apps or your MyPost Business account, and it does not test mixed carts, discount codes, logged-in or B2B buyers. Monitoring re-checks every 6 hours and emails you when a country loses its delivery options or a known option, such as Express Post, disappears.
